I use 6...I too have gone down this downscale route. I use 6mm with 10mm figures and more recently 2mm with 6 mm figs. At brigade scale tthis is perfect. Nice tiles and may I suggest a method that I use for garrisons. I simply remove the town and replace iot with a flat "urban" tile. These are a square of MDF with cobblestones and the stencils of house shapes. My troops sit on them till the they move out and the town is replaced.
