Interestingly, if I recall correctly there was one essay that tries to address what the author saw as a lack of historical 'ownership' by British historians and Britains involvement in Vimy and specifically the 09-12 April attack...it was a very interesting read.

As you say, we're definitely fighting myths everyday. It always takes a while for academic knowledge to seep into the mainstream, so I am glad that it has started to bubble up for the 100th anniversary. I have not heard of the reassessment, but have just found it on Amazon and added it to the wishlist (it's a bit pricey here in the UK...).

I do get very frustrated (especially over the last few days) when Canadians claim is was purely a Canadian victory (even the Canadian Corps was about 60% British men...) when it simply wasn't the case. But we're swimming against the tides sometimes when it comes to all the myths about the First World War! Ah well, just keep the powder dry, is all we can do... You'll be hap...Great looking game and table...

You'll be happy to know there has been a definite move by Canadian historians to reevaluate what Canadians 'know' about Vimy Ridge. Vimy Ridge: A Canadian Reassessment was published in time for the 95th Anniversary as a collection of essays outlining the preparation, build-up, battle, and aftermath of Vimy Ridge. It does a very good job of highlighting the lessons adopted from the French and British and other nations involved in the 09-12 April fighting.

As well, this past weekends coverage of the 100th did a very good job of making sure the contributions and efforts of the British were highlighted. Having grown up with many of the 'Vimy myths' it was good to see the context of the battle in the larger picture and the contribution of other nations better recognized.

Cheers.Stan M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00560295989788635637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7297968378523143704.post-66675905833942651202017-04-12T13:24:19.866+01:002017-04-12T13:24:19.866+01:00Thanks Dave, it was a great game, it's always ...Thanks Dave, it was a great game, it's always a pleasure to play SB!Abwehrschlachthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17947283932230918452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7297968378523143704.post-35787975557224574122017-04-12T10:19:09.383+01:002017-04-12T10:19:09.383+01:00nice game , short front ?/ hard work !! good to se...nice game , short front ?/ hard work !! good to see your kit out .. ace work ..Dave Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11899047359851997927noreply@blogger.com
