Zvezda 1/144th Stuka and Sturmovik

I should be writing an essay on British Generals in the First World War, but I'm procrastinating and instead have literally just finished these two planes; a 1/144th Stuka and Sturmovik by Zvezda. I did have three of each of these originally but then realised I would probably never use that many in a game so I sold the surplus and painted the remainder!

Also on Sunday I called over to Batman's house with some friends and saw that during the 'last lot' the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment were stationed there, here are their memorials:

OK, that's enough procrastinating, back to the reading...

  1. Nice job. And if you brushed it, even nicer! And thanks for the pictures.

    1. Thanks Jay, I paint everything by hand, I have never really used airbrushes so I am little scared of them...

    2. Well, you've done good!

FYI: Just a bit of trivia...Back in the 1970s I stumbled upon Shepard Paine's book on how to build dioramas. It was reading his book that I learned that if when brushing airplanes or vehicles, and there were some slight color distortions, especially where camo overlaps occur, giving the model a coat of Future Floor Wax would make these areas seem to blend together/lessen the "picture-framing." In most cases this method has worked for me. As a brush painter, if you've encountered something like this, I encourage you to give this method of hiding flaws a try.

    3. Thanks again! That's a great tip, I will have a look around for some floor polish and see if it works. I do find that there are hard edges between camos, and wondered how to get rid of them. It always amazes me how people stumble on these kind of remedies for modelling. Like the Power of Dettol when it comes to stripping figures, which is something I only learned recently!

  2. Thanks for the pictures, my Dad was a member of the 508th PIR during the Battle of the Bulge.

    1. Hi Ken, thanks for reading! That is amazing, do you know if he was at Woolaton Hall at any time before going to France? I had no idea the memorial was there and I only went with a friend who's stag do it was the night before as we were kicking around with not much to do!
